Scanning transmission electron microscope image of a novel dislocation in the complex metal alloy of T-Al-Mn-Pd. Bright dots show the positions of the heavy atoms palladium and manganese. The dislocation (green) pushes through the material from the right and leaves a modified atomic structure. The areas marked in red only exist for a short time in the region of the dislocation's "bow wave".
