DFG funds new Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1208 on membrane systems and extends funding for CRC 974 on liver research

Institut für Physikalische Biologie and ICS-6 involved in successful applications for DFG-funding

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) has announced funding of 10 Million Euro to establish the new Collaborative Research Center 1208 “Identity and dynamics of membrane systems – From molecules to cellular function” at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf within a first funding period of four years.

Furthermore the Collaborative Research Center 974 “Communication and Systemic Impact in Liver Damage and Regeneration“, which was originally established in 2011 at HHU, will be supported for four more years with 11 Million Euro.
Scientists from the Institut für Physikalische Biologie and therefore also the ICS-6 at Forschungszentrum Jülich are involved in both CRCs with a total of 4 subprojects:

CRC 1208
Unravelling the interactions of mGBP proteins with lipid membranes (Jun.-Prof. Birgit Strodel)
Subversion of host cell vesicle trafficking: Hijacking of autophagy-related proteins by
HIV-1 Nef (Dr. Melanie Schwarten, Dr. Silke Hoffmann, Prof. Dieter Willbold)
Elucidation of the dynamics of the autophagosomal membrane- associated protein
GABARAP by NMR spectroscopy (Dr. Philipp Neudecker)

CRC 974
Structural basis of the interaction of tyrosin kinase c-Src with Hepatitis C virus proteins NS5A and NS5B and its influence on liver damage and regeneration (Dr. Silke Hoffmann, Dr. Melanie Schwarten, Prof. Dieter Willbold)
