“Wind energy is the foundation and cornerstone of the Energiewende. Without it, we cannot meet the climate targets we have set ourselves.”

Germany is aiming to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality by 2050. Doing so requires a transformation of the energy system – a process in which onshore wind energy plays a vital part. Yet the expansion of wind energy fell to a historically low level last year. Jülich researchers warn that climate targets may be at risk. In an interview, we speak to Dr. Martin Robinius from Jülich’s subinstitute for Techno-Economic Systems Analysis about the situation.
