Prime Minister Kraft Learns about Jülich Alzheimer’s Research

Jülich, 13 November 2014 - With present-day methods, Alzheimer’s disease can only be diagnosed at a very advanced stage. At the world’s largest medical marketplace, MEDICA 2014 in Düsseldorf, scientists are presenting the sFIDA method, which visualizes the protein aggregates believed to cause the disease using fluorescent antibodies. This could enable a diagnosis to be made long before symptoms become apparent. A delegation from the government of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, led by Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft, visited the sFIDA stand at MEDICA yesterday and learned about the project. "The research findings offer great hope," said Kraft. "Early and reliable detection of Alzheimer’s disease is of great importance, as only early diagnosis can enable doctors to treat the disease successfully."
