test

The function of each cell and organism depends crucially on the dynamic interactions between biological macromolecules and their correct three-dimension structure. Faulty interactions and misfolded structeres ultimately lead to disease and aging. The goal of ICS-6 is to understand these interactions and to determine the three-dimensional structures of the protein complexes involved in crucial cellular processes as far as possible at atomic resolution. In addition, the department is developing novel methods for the early detection and therapy of neurodegenerative diseases with a strong Focus on Alzheimer´s dementia.

The laboratory of "Cellular and systemic propagation of protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases" is focused on understanding how disease-associated proteins misfold, spread, and damage the nerve system. The main focus is here on Parkinson´s disease, Alzheimer´s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
