The Peter Grünberg Institute Semiconductor Nanoelectronics investigates fundamental problems in semiconductor physics and in semiconductor materials. In the device development alternative concepts and property limits are explored. Quantum bits based on superconductors are among the favored approaches for the realization of future quantum computers. The properties of the quantum bits can be further improved by combining them with semiconductor nanostructures or topological materials, especially with respect to electrical controllability and error correction. Furthermore, such hybrid structures also allow to pursue alternative concepts for quantum bits, which explicitly make use of quantization in nanostructures. For the investigation of hybrid quantum bit structures, a low-temperature measurement set-up is to be installed and operated, which will allow to analyse and manipulate corresponding quantum bits using high frequency. The different quantum bit circuits will be manufactured in the Helmholtz Nano-Facility using in-situ preparation and nanofabrication techniques.

Research Scientist for fabrication and characterization of superconducting hybrid quantum bits

Your Job:

  • Design and simulation of high-frequency circuits with microwave resonators and superconducting hybrid quantum bits
  • Nanofabrication of superconducting quantum bit circuits in a clean room
  • Characterization of the process steps and circuits
  • Construction and operation of a low-temperature measuring station for measurements in the microwave range
  • Measurement of superconducting quantum bit circuits
  • Further development of measurement software for the control of quantum bit circuits
  • Development of new theoretical and experimental concepts for the realization of superconducting hybrid quantum bits

Your Profile:

  • Master`s degree in physics and successful doctorate in the field of solid state or semiconductor physics or nanotechnology
  • Extensive knowledge in semiconductor and superconductor physics
  • Advanced knowledge in microwave technology or nanotechnology desired
  • Experience in the design and optimization of high-frequency circuits is advantageous
  • Basic background knowledge of measurement control software (e.g. QuCoDeS)
  • Good communication skills and organizational talent
  • Very good spoken and written English
