Global carbon monoxide in the lower troposphere

 

The image shows simulated global carbon monoxide concentrations at the 850 mbar pressure level (about 1500 m above ground). Major source regions determined by anthropogenic or biomass burning emissions (red hot spots) as well as the long-range transport of the plumes under the influence of changing weather systems are visible. Data was produced with the MOZART chemistry transport model driven by meteorological fields from the ECMWF forecast model in the framework of the EU project MACC
