IEK-9 performs application-oriented fundamental research to develop efficient next-generation electrochemical technologies in the fields of energy storage, energy conversion and CO2-valorization. Research is performed along value chains from novel electrochemical concepts, over tailored high-performance materials and functional components towards complete electrochemical cells.
A concept of rational materials and process design is followed, which is based on multi-modal characterization of microstructure-property relation-ships and dynamic processes in electrochemical cells during operation. For that purpose, advanced electrochemical methods and dedicated ‘in-situ’ microscopic and ‘in-operando’ spectroscopic methods developed and ap-plied.
