INM-1 research groups

Architektonik und Hirnfunktion

Architecture and Brain Function

The working group „Architecture and Brain Function“ develops a three-dimensional atlas of the human brain, which reflects the intersubject variability in brain organization. Central element is the regionally specific distribution of nerve cells, i.e., cytoarchitecture.

Group Fiber Architecture

Fiber Architecture

The research group “Fiber Architecture” develops techniques to reconstruct the three-dimensional nerve fiber architecture in mouse, rat, monkey, and human brains at microscopic resolution.

AG Genomic Imaging

Genomic Imaging

The research group Genomic Imaging“ investigates the influence of genetic factors on the healthy and sick brain. The group aims to find out which structural and functional changes are caused by genetic variants and how they contribute to the development of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases.

Big Data Analytics

Building human brain models and atlases based on ultra-high resolution 3D image datasets imposes significant challenges on image processing methods and algorithms, as well as data and workflow management. The group works on solutions for these challenges.

The „Connectivity“ group is interested in the relevance of fiber tracts for the structure and architecture of the surface and cortex of the brain. A particular focus are changes in the anatomy of the brain’s surface and fiber tracts at older age.
