The Julich-Brain Atlas

"Julich-Brain" is the name of the first 3D atlas of the human brain, which depicts the variability of the brain structure with microscopic resolution. Over 24,000 wafer-thin brain slices were digitised, assembled in 3D and mapped by experts.

Big Brain HIBALL

Helmholtz International BigBrain Analytics and Learning Laboratory

HIBALL builds on INM-1's collaboration with McGill University around the 20-micron BigBrain model and will enable the development of a 3-D atlas of the human brain at cellular resolution level.

BigBrain EBRAINS

Brain Atlas of the Human Brain Project

The INM-1 creates a digital brain atlas in 3D, which links the collected knowledge of brain research spatially precise. The atlas is a contribution to the European flagship "Human Brain Project" and part of the new EU research platform EBRAINS.

Computing Brain

Computing Brain

The INM-1 builds 3D models of the human brain at the level of individual cells and nerve fibers by processing Terabytes of image data. This is only possible by developing complex distributed workflows on the Supercomputing systems in Jülich.

Neurotransmitters and their receptors represent the molecular basis for structure-function relationships in the brain. Each brain area contains nerve cells that express receptors for inhibitory, excitatory and modulatory neurotransmitters. Differences in the regional and laminar distribution patterns of a single receptor type can be analysed by quantitative in vitro receptor autoradiography.
