Quantitative genome-wide association study of six phenotypic subdomains identifies novel genome-wide significant variants in autism spectrum disorder.
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are highly heritable and are characterized by deficits in social communication and restricted and repetitive behaviors. Twin studies on phenotypic subdomains suggest a differing underlying genetic etiology. [...]

Design, evaluation and comparison of endorectal coils for hybrid MR-PET imaging of the prostate
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men and its early detection is critical for its successful treatment. The use of multimodal imaging, such as MR-PET, is most advantageous as it is able to provide detailed information about the prostate. [...]

Neural Correlates of Empathy in Boys With Early Onset Conduct Disorder
Background: A deficit in empathy has repeatedly been described in individuals with conduct disorder (CD), and in particular in those with callous unemotional traits. Until now, little is known about the neural basis of empathy in children and adolescents with early onset conduct disorder. [...]

PET/MRI Radiomics in Patients With Brain Metastases
Although a variety of imaging modalities are used or currently being investigated for patients with brain tumors including brain metastases, clinical image interpretation to date uses only a fraction of the underlying complex, high-dimensional digital information from routinely acquired imaging data. The growing availability of high-performance computing allows the extraction of quantitative imaging features from medical images that are usually beyond human perception. [...]

mGluR5 receptor availability is associated with lower levels of negative symptoms and better cognition in male patients with chronic schizophrenia
Human brain mapping 41(10), 2762-2781 () [10.1002/hbm.24976]
Consistent findings postulate disturbed glutamatergic function (more specifically a hypofunction of the ionotropic NMDA receptors) as an important pathophysiologic mechanism in schizophrenia. However, the role of the metabotropic glutamatergic receptors type 5 (mGluR5) in this disease remains unclear. [...]

Analysis of EPI phase correction with low flip‐angle excitation to reduce the required minimum TE: Application to whole‐brain, submillimeter‐resolution fMRI at 3 T
Magnetic resonance in medicine 84(3), 1416 - 1429 () [10.1002/mrm.28218]
Echo planar imaging is used widely for its imaging speed. However, its applications often suffer from ghost artifacts. [...]

Functional Characterization of Atrophy Patterns Related to Cognitive Impairment
Introduction: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a heterogenous syndrome considered as a risk factor for developing dementia. Previous work examining morphological brain changes in MCI has identified a temporo-parietal atrophy pattern that suggests a common neuroanatomical denominator of cognitive impairment. [...]

Dedicated diffusion phantoms for the investigation of free water elimination and mapping: insights into the influence of T 2 relaxation properties
NMR in biomedicine 33(4), e4210 () [10.1002/nbm.4210]
Conventional diffusion‐weighted (DW) MRI suffers from free water contamination due to the finite voxel size. The most common case of free water contamination occurs with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in voxels located at the CSF‐tissue interface, such as at the ventricles in the human brain. [...]

Increased Water Content in Periventricular Caps in Patients without Acute Hydrocephalus
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Periventricular caps are a common finding on MR imaging and are believed to reflect focally increased interstitial water content due to dysfunctional transependymal transportation rather than ischemic-gliotic changes. We compared the quantitative water content of periventricular caps and microvascular white matter lesions, hypothesizing that periventricular caps associated with increased interstitial fluid content display higher water content than white matter lesions and are therefore differentiable from microvascular white matter lesions by measurement of the water content.MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a prospective study, we compared the water content of periventricular caps and white matter lesions in 50 patients using a quantitative multiple-echo, gradient-echo MR imaging water-mapping sequence.RESULTS: The water content of periventricular caps was significantly higher than that of white matter lesions (P = .002).
