Undersampled quantitative imaging and contrast synthesis

Spiral scanning of k-space allows for faster read-out than traditional Cartesian trajectories, but it is challenging to implement as small errors in the spiral trajectory tend to add up and are hard to predict and correct. Image reconstruction needs to reformat the samples from the spiral k-space trajectory to a Cartesian grid. Using Compressed Sensing to reconstruct images from under-sampled spiral read-out techniques, it becomes possible to further speed up the sampling process and alleviate trajectory imperfections. One of the goals for sequence design is to compare the efficiency and accuracy of qMRI methods employing Cartesian sampling schemes with spiral sampling schemes, as well as with other recent methods for qMRI based on Magnetic Resonance Fingerprinting. It is also of interest to find out how and to what extend trajectory infidelities may be recognised and corrected, to avoid loss of detail information and distortions in the reconstructed images..

QuantiBrain is a software package under development that aims to integrate contrast synthesis and super resolution reconstruction in slice direction from multiple source volumes into one target volume. Contrasts may be generated from relaxation time parameter maps for T1, T2 and T2* and proton density using TrueFISP, MP-RAGE and Flair imaging equations as well as a parsed formula description for arbitrary source volume combinations. It uses a simple drag-and-drop interface to read DICOM as well as NIFTI format input volumes and is able to save newly generated image contrasts as separate volumes in both format standards.
