Best Poster Award for Daniela Stange

Daniela Stange, Ph.D. student at the Peter Grünberg Institute 9 (PGI-9 Semiconductor Nanoelectronics), has won a poster award at the 19th International Winterschool on “New Developments in Solid State Physics” held in Mauterndorf, Austria between 21-26 February 2016. The award was handed over by Prof. Kuchar (Montanuniversity Leoben) and Prof. Rastelli (Johannes Kepler University Linz).

She received the award for her poster entitled “GeSn for a monolithic direct bandgap laser on Si”, which presents state-of-the-art developments on group IV laser sources for integration in silicon photonics. Herein, GeSn has high potential for low power optical interconnect applications on Si chips, which could drastically reduce heat dissipation in future computer chip.

The International Winterschool, which takes place biennial, covers a broad range of current topics in solid state physics. It aims at current PhD students, giving them a broad overview on selected topics in the field of solid state physics by mixing both invited talks and tutorial lectures.
