Warum und woran ich forsche

I mainly work in the research group "Modelling and Management of Catchments". However, I also work closely with other groups at the Agrosphere Institute IBG-3

Research focus

My focus is on the development and application of the multi-scale water balance model mGROWA. This includes the application of the model in various studies on the impact of climate change on groundwater resources, agricultural irrigation requirements and hydrologic drought periods. In this context, I also deal with the statistical analysis of complex and large data sets. An essential part of my work concerns the parameterisation of the model, i.e. I carry out detailed small-scale studies based on data collected at the Institute's observatories. Another part of my work involves cooperation with institutions (authorities, ministries) that utilise the results of the mGROWA model for water management issues. Such collaborations often lead to scientific policy consultation at various administrative levels.

Research interest

  • Hydrologic water balance modelling
  • Effects of the signals generated by regional climate models on water-related processes
  • Methods for measuring model performance and reducing model bias
  • Geo-statistical methods for the parameterisation of hydrogeological conceptual models
  • Dependence of groundwater use on temporal changes in the available groundwater resources
  • Automation of working processes within the scope of water balance modelling
