Publication "CO2 electroreduction to syngas with tunable composition in an artificial leaf" in Chem. Sus. Chem. journal

And selected as the cover for the April 2024 issue

Invited for this month's cover of Chem Sus. Chem. Journal is the group of Javier Pérez-Ramírez at ETH Zürich, which collaborated with the group of Tsvetelina Merdzhanova at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

The publication of our PhD student Thérèse Cibaka and F. L. P. Veenstra from ETH Zürich named  CO2 Electroreduction To Syngas With Tunable Composition In An Artificial Leaf published in Chem. Sus. Chem. Journal was chosen as a Cover for the April 2024 addition.

The image shows how artificial leaves, able to recycle carbon dioxide into syngas of variable composition, could be integrated with chemical plants.

Artificial leaves able to transform carbon dioxide into valuable products are designed to operate under nominal conditions with severe efficiency penalties under other regimes. We have discovered that, if a simple operation variable such as the electrolyte flow is considered during design, syngas with an adjustable CO:H2 ratio can be produced while retaining optimal efficiency. These artificial leaves with flexible operation will show a more facile coupling with downstream technologies working under different compositional ranges. We think this concept can be exported to other products in the future.
