Millions in Funding for Bioeconomy in Rhineland Region
Jülich, 20 August 2019 – Transforming the Rhineland, a former coal-mining region, into a pioneering region for biobased value creation – since 2017, science, industry, regional authorities, and civil society have been working on this idea in the BioökonomieREVIER project.
In a first step, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the BioökonomieREVIER_KOM project with € 3.9 million. This will serve as a basis to all stakeholders for the creation of a sustainable strategy for the region. In addition, a communication project is set to be launched with the objective of communicating the bioeconomy topic to the public and initiating discussion. Today, Parliamentary State Secretary to BMBF and member of the German Bundestag Thomas Rachel presented the notification of funding for the first subproject, which is coordinated by Forschungszentrum Jülich within the scope of the Federal Government’s immediate action programme for regions affected by structural change.
