European Research Initiative “BATTERY 2030+” Presents Roadmap for New Generations of Batteries
Jülich/Münster, 17 April 2020 – Batteries are a key factor in achieving a climate-neutral society. It is hoped that new, more powerful electrochemical energy storage systems will give a boost to electromobility in particular. In order to combine the forces working on this in Europe, research institutions from nine countries are working together in the “BATTERY 2030+” initiative to develop the next generation of batteries. Its goal is to combine ultra-high performance, sustainability, safety, and economic viability. The initiative’s consortium includes the Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS) – a branch office of Forschungszentrum Jülich – as well as the MEET Battery Research Center in Münster and 15 other institutions from all over Europe. The partners have now presented a roadmap with three key pillars in order to develop the battery of the future and bring it to market.
