First Hydrogen Plasma at Wendelstein 7-X

Greifswald/Jülich, 3 February 2016 – During a ceremony at Wendelstein 7-X, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel switched on the first ever hydrogen plasma on Wednesday. Thus, scientific experiment operations at the largest stellarator fusion facility in the world began ten years after the start of construction. The facility is located at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald. Forschungszentrum Jülich will now continue its scientific work in the field by researching plasma/wall interactions.
