The FocusLabs have been selected and are located at the Bioeconomy Science Center (BioSC), which is coordinated by Forschungszentrum Jülich. At the FocusLabs, in which four partner institutions of the BioSC are involved, work will be carried out on various topics – ranging from the development of an integrated biorefinery based on perennial crops to the innovative production of biosurfactants and the fabrication of natural products with the aid of synthetic biology. The Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Research of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MIWF) is investing a total of € 7 million in the FocusLabs as part of the NRW strategy project BioSC.
