Research

The Peter Grünberg Institute (PGI) is dedicated to bring the discovery and understanding of new phenomena in condensed matter, the development of novel materials and functional structures at the nano- and quantum-scale as well as innovation in experimental and theoretical methods. We advance fundamental research to pave the way for novel technological concepts in information technology - this is also the guiding principle of the Peter Grünberg Institute which was named after the famous scientist and Nobel-Prize winner.

Functional Materials and Emergent Phenomena, Quantum Computing and Neuromorphic Computing and corresponding Software and Systems are the focal points of our research. On the following pages we describe our research areas, their mutual interaction as well as the interaction with other institutes.
