Aachen University of Applied Sciences

Herr Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Linßen teaches the module "Gas and Hydrogen Supply Structures" in the master's programs "Energy Economics and Computer Science" and "Energy Systems" at the FH Aachen.

After completing the module, he/she will be able to describe and model energy systems with gas and hydrogen infrastructures from a techno-economic perspective. Furthermore, the students can plan infrastructure and system concepts for gas/hydrogen transport, storage, distribution, and use from a techno-economic point of view and evaluate the economic efficiency of the concepts. In addition to detailed technical knowledge, he/she can also map and calculate system interrelationships, in particular the coupling of infrastructures in national energy supply systems, using an optimization model and evaluate them in terms of efficiency, costs, and emissions.

The teaching module focuses on the following areas:

1. Fundamentals of gaseous fuel production, storage, transportation, distribution, and utilization.
2. Technical structure and examples of implementation of infrastructure for gaseous energy carriers of natural gas, SNG, and hydrogen.
3. Mathematical principles of energy systems modeling and transportation of gaseous fuels.
4. Importance of infrastructures for future energy systems in D and EU with emphasis on sector coupling.
5. Construction of energy system models and their application to a simple energy system with emphasis on transport and storage of gaseous energy carriers.
6. Regulation and management of gas and hydrogen infrastructures.
