Further research topics

The R&D projects of the research group neither directly falling into the category “water balance and climate change” nor into the category “nutrients” are summarized here. Topics include the development of approaches for assessing further matter fluxes and for refining simulation of selected pathways:

  • Derivation of natural background values and threshold values for groundwater
  • Assessment of pesticide leaching risk
  • Delineation of artificially drained areas
  • Delineation of areas displaying soil erosion
  • Delineation of rainfall intensity data for soil erosion modelling
  • Development of conceptual hydrogeological model and travel time assessment
  • Determination of heavy metal loads in catchments
  • Determination of pharmaceuticals in river systems.
  • Model based assessment of micro plastic inputs into river systems

Knowledge transfer and outreach:

The general methodology to derive natural background levels and groundwater threshold values has been processed on EU level in document No.18 of the Common Implementation Strategy (CIS) for the EU-WFD Framework. Research findings for the “Soil Erosion Atlas of Hesse” have been disseminated to experts as well as the interested public by an internet-based data viewer hosted by the Hessian Agency for the Environment and Geology (Department for Soil Protection and Soil Information): http://bodenviewer.hessen.de/viewer.html
